Linux Mint Is In

Linux Mint is a derivative of the Ubuntu Linux operating system and has long been the number four home operating system behind Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS and Canonical's Ubuntu.  With Ubuntu 11.10 Canonical pushed out the Gnome interface seeming to favor a mobile phone and tablet computer friendly interaction (called Unity)  instead of the traditional desktop that most computer users are familiar with.  For over six months Linux Mint has surpassed Ubuntu in downloads at Distro Watch as Linux users are moving away from Ubuntu because of this interface change.

"reloaded for free if you get a virus during the warranty period!"

After careful consideration Panther Computers now offers Linux Mint 12 as an alternative to Windows instead of Ubuntu.

You are welcome to come by and see Linux Mint in action on all our Internet Cafe computers to see how well a non Microsoft operating system can perform.  Linux is free, highly secure from viruses, and can meet the needs of most computer users.

For those of you using an Android device, you are already using a modified Linux operating system on your tablet or smart phone.  You also know that you can browse the Internet, get email, and find applications to do most anything you would ever do on a Microsoft machine.  On a Linux Mint desktop, there are countless free applications and games available for download.

Microsoft is once again nearing a new release of the next Windows, Windows 8.  Much like Canonical, Microsoft is changing its interface to be less about desktop computing and more geared towards tablets and smart phones.  In addition to this move, Microsoft has recently announced it knows what's best for you (the Windows computer user) and will force you to take all updates and new versions of Internet Explorer, like it or not

We have already had a dramatic increase of having to reload Windows on computers with Vista and 7 due to Internet Explorer 9.  We often have to uninstall IE8, so we can uninstall IE7 that had detrimental effects on XP, before reinstalling IE8.  Microsoft can't get it right, and now they want to force their mistakes down your throat when they deem it to be in your best interest.

It is for this reason that we will be recommending casual users of computers that don't use Windows dependent games (WOW etc), accounting (Quick Books etc), or other proprietary programs that require Microsoft to seriously look at Linux, and consider a more secure and less costly alternative.

As such any new Panther Computer purchased with Linux loaded will not only have a one year parts warranty, but will also be reloaded for free if you get a virus during the warranty period!
