Christie\'s sells Ruby for $ 3.6 Million
St. Moritz, February 15th, 2006 – History was created at Christie’s auction in St. Moritz where the now called "Graff Ruby" realised a world record price of $425,000 per carat.
The 8.62 carat cushion-cut ruby is a truly exceptional gem as it combines the highly sought-after \'pigeon\'s-blood red\' typical of old Burmese material with a high degree of transparency, which is rare in rubies. A unique stone in all its aspects.
This is the most important sale ever organised by Christie’s in St Moritz and, as with fine and decorative arts, the jewellery market continues to show tremendous strength, especially for diamonds and rare coloured stones.
